MeNu chant

written by Megan Brewer, adapted by Mimi Sinclair copyright ©2012

We are currently running a 10-week course in social skills for young adults on the autism spectrum. During the weekly sessions, we play music, sing, and listen to our favorite songs together. We also are using The Social and Life Skills MeNu curriculum by Karra M. Barber to improve verbal interactions. MeNu is a play on the words Me and You. It breaks conversations down into 3 courses such as one would find on a restaurant menu. Starters are the openers we use in any interaction. The main course is the main idea we want to convey to another person. Then we always end a conversation with a treat. This chant was composed using some of the group's favorite comments and topics.

Hi there, Hello friend, or How do you do, or maybe
What's new with you – today? That's how we start it now.
I like your shirt, man, and I like your hat, you know,
I like our music yeah I say - This is where it's at.
We talk about the weekend some and social situations here
We practice our behaviors and how to have good relations,
How do we end? We gotta think, sometimes it's hard to say,
I usually like to close with, "Have a nice day!"
